About Us
McCurtain County's first home for higher education was the Higher Learning Center in downtown Idabel.
Plans for the present facility were developed and the ET Dunlap Center was placed into service in the fall of 1980. It was named the ET Dunlap center in recognition of the contributions made by Dr. E.T. Dunlap, former Chancellor of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
Supported by state funds and private donations, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Board of Trustees, which are appointed by the Governor, oversee the higher education program at the Center. The Center’s Director and administrative staff manage the day-to-day activities, while the three cooperating institutions provide a Center Coordinator, support staff and instructional personnel.
The Center is unique in that it offers residence credit by two junior colleges, Carl Albert State College and Eastern Oklahoma State College, and one university, Southeastern Oklahoma State University. These schools are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This is the highest level of regional accreditation granted.
Carl Albert State College and Eastern Oklahoma State College offer lower level courses applicable to Associate degrees and general education requirements. Southeastern Oklahoma State University offers upper division courses leading towards Bachelor and Master degrees. In addition, a Bachelor of Nursing is offered from East Central University and Legal Secretary Program is offered from Murray State College through interactive television.
The Center’s facilities include a science laboratory, art room, two computer labs with access to the Internet and electronic mail, accounting lab, three interactive television studios, student lounge, snack area, conference room and a state-of-the-art Seminar and Conference Auditorium, which offers educational and cultural activities to students, industry and the community.
July 1, 2005 the ET Dunlap Center became a branch campus of participating partner Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
